Hong Kong invites the creative world to town to discuss the business of design

The Business of Design Week - designed to invigorate Hong Kong's cultural and creative industries - has announced a line up of more than 135 of the world's top thinkers for its programme at the end of November.

The event - to run from November 30 to December 5 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in the downtown Wan Chai district - will focus on the world's of fashion, branding, culture and architiecture, and will also discuss the city's controversial West Kowloon Cultural District which has been years in the planning but has yet to see any soil turned.

Among those invited are Coca-Cola's vice-president of design, David Butler, the New York Museum of Modern Art's Kathy Halbreich, and the Beijing-based architect Zhu Pei.

Reflecting Hong Kong's push for more environmentally aware designs, organisers from the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) have also lured France's Patrick Blanc to the event to discuss his innovative work growing plants on the sides of buildings.

HKDC chairman Victor Lo said in a press release that he expected "an inspiring week of discussions, programmes and business opportunities.''
