Paul Smith creates lounge for Stockholm Furniture Fair

British fashion designer and Stockholm Furniture Fair guest of honor, Paul Smith is premiering a lounge at the event that kicks off February 9.

Following fellow designers such as the Italian Giulio Cappellini with whom he has previously collaborated, Paul Smith created this lounge "filled with personal sources of inspiration and impressions."

"When it comes to the lounge at Stockholm Furniture Fair, I don't want to just reflect a minimalistic elegance," Smith said. "We've seen that many times before. I want to spread an interesting, optimistic atmosphere that inspires people and shows something other than pure elegance."

Composed of four rooms, the lounge will feature one room covered entirely with photos of flowers, taken by Paul Smith, another one dedicated to one of his biggest inspirations, the Italian architect and designer Giò Ponti - covers of Domus magazine, established by Ponti, dominate this room - as well as pictures of Paul Smith's iconic boutiques and finally a room called "Sent things," comprising items sent to the designer by a secret admirer over the past years.

Smith is predominantly known for his men's fashion but has also designed furniture and upholstery textiles in the past. He will hold a talk on "how to find inspiration in everything" on February 9 at 3 pm.

Other highlights at the fair, which is the leading interior event in the Baltic Sea Region and according to the organizers attracts more than one million visitors each year, include the popular Designboom Mart, a cross between a design exhibition and a market.

The Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair will run through February 13.
