Singapore Design Festival introduces public trails

Themed "Design 2050: Possibilities for Tomorrow," the event -- running November 20-30 -- will for the first time open to the public via citywide Design Trails.

In order for visitors to "explore design," the trails will lead Singaporeans to various design landmarks in areas such as Orchard, Tanjong Pagar, and Chinatown, while the public is also encouraged to come up with their own design trails, which can be shared on a designated webpage from one week prior to the festival.

With contributions from designers in Australia, Denmark, the European Union, Italy, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the festival "aims to inspire everyone to consider and examine scenarios of how life can be different in the future, by design," the DesignSingapore Council stated in a release.

Along those lines, Absolut Vodka is staging an exhibition part of its 'In an Absolute World' campaign, with designers creating installations of their ideal world scenarios, while new exhibitions will showcase examples of sustainable architecture or 'tomorrow's kitchens.'

The festival also incorporates displays by INDEX and Good Design Award winners.

Singapore will concurrently host the ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) World Design Congress, this year under the motto of "Design Difference - Designing Our World 2050," November 22-27.
