Letter: Anti-stalker

As a solicitor it depressed me to read the advice Alison Lewis was given with regard to the ex-boyfriend who is stalking her ("The spy who says he loves me", Real Life, 26 January).

The law should be able to assist her. An application can be made to a County Court: the standard wording for such an order in the South Yorkshire area would be that the man should not "molest (the woman) whether by actual or threatened violence or by other conduct likely to injure her physical or mental health". The police should also be able to help in this situation, even if they feel no criminal offence has been committed.
