Sir: Martin Bell is a fine journalist and his heartfelt reports have been instrumental in bringing the plight of the citizens of Sarajevo to the attention of television viewers in this country.

I find it all the more distasteful, therefore, to listen to BBC news coverage of the terrible conditions in hospitals in that beleaguered city and the continuing suffering of the people who have no choice but to stay there, immediately followed by reports that Mr Bell, who was in Sarajevo and under fire out of choice, had been flown out of the city on a specially provided aircraft and is now resting in a private hospital at home.

I am sure Mr Bell himself would not approve of equal weight being given to the story of his own slight injuries as to the terrible casualties of the innocent victims of war.

Yours sincerely,
