Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne
When band manager Don Arden, Sharon Osbourne's violent, abusive father, sacked Ozzy Osbourne from Black Sabbath in 1979, Sharon was adamant that the singer's career shouldn't be over. The pair became lovers, and she began to manage him, much to her father's fury. The next time she came home, Don loosed his savage dogs on her; she was pregnant by Ozzy, and miscarried. Ozzy and Sharon married in 1982, and went on to have three children, but heavy substance abuse meant Ozzy could often be as volatile as Don. In 1989, he tried to strangle Sharon after drinking four bottles of vodka, announcing ominously: "I've decided you have to go." Sharon refused to press charges after calling the police, and now refers to the incident casually: "He was totally insane from all the drink and drugs he was doing, and, well, these things happen." The couple went on to star in their own successful reality show, launch a huge music festival and rehabilitate Black Sabbath, while Sharon became a television personality. Romantic? It depends how much value you place on love that survives the trials it encounters. Ozzy calls Sharon "the love of my life", and Sharon reciprocates his affections. "He's a legend," she says.
