Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
No other 21st-century romance has generated so much public heat as the coupling of actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Even if recent reports of an impending separation turn out to be accurate, they remain, arguably, the defining couple of the celebrity age. Widely thought of as two of the world's most beautiful stars, they may also be admired for their romantic spontaneity. Pitt had been married to Jennifer Aniston, often called "America's sweetheart", for five years when he met Jolie on a film set in 2004. Despite this, he soon became infatuated with the twice-divorced, bisexual single mother of an adopted son. When Aniston filed for divorce in 2005, rumours abounded that Jolie had stolen her husband. Jolie has always denied this, insisting: "To be intimate with a married man, when my own father cheated on my mother, is not something I could forgive." However, she confessed that the pair did fall in love during filming. Since then, while still unmarried, Jolie and Pitt have adopted two more infants, as well as having three biological children together. Pitt is now legal father of all six. "Angelina and I are together because we can enhance each other," he has explained. "I don't want to waste any time, because I'm with company I really, really love."
