Tinder has introduced a new feature in a bid to help its users engage with their matches on a deeper level.

The dating app’s Feed section is a timeline of a user’s matches, showing any recent activity they’ve had on the app, including new photos they’ve added to their profiles and new songs they’ve included in their Spotify favourites list.

The idea is that having access to this new information will help users to make “real connections” and initiate more engaging conversations; however, some people have been quick to lambaste the new feature as “creepy” and unnecessary.

Tinder started trialling the Feed feature in December for users based in Australia, Canada and New Zealand; the dating app announced it would be rolling it out worldwide in an blog post that was updated on Wednesday.

“Feed brings your matches to life by delivering a visual and interactive experience that helps you spark conversation with the people you want to meet most,” the post reads.

“It’s an exciting new way to see more of what someone is all about by giving you a true glimpse into their world—their passions, their personality, their latest adventure—all leading to better conversations and deeper connections.”

The feature enables users to send messages to their matches directly in response to updates they’ve made.

“You can send a message specific to any update by double-tapping the content,” the blog post explains.

“Whether you want to give Leilani a shout-out on her solid Boomerang skills, or let Zoe know the ‘Best. Burger. Ever.’ pic she just posted is your favourite too, and just happens to be across the street from your office.”

There have been mixed reactions to the feature on social media, with some users labelling it redundant while others raised concerns at matches being able to see the extent of their online activity.

Riddle me this, why does my Tinder have a ‘feed’? What purpose does that serve me?,” asked one user on Twitter.

“I am at a loss of words for how much I hate that Tinder has a news feed now,” added another.

“Like I don't want to hang out with anyone I matched with anymore because of that feature and the fact that they use it and all reveal their desperation and thirst.”
