Woman with Down’s Syndrome finds love of her life after going on The Undateables

A young woman suffering from Down’s Syndrome who went on Channel 4’s The Undateables has revealed how she finally found love, after she was rejected on the TV show.

Bethany Maddox was 19 when she appeared on the programme and had been plagued by body confidence issues throughout her teenage years.

Maddox’s mother Bekki has spoken to The Daily Record about how her daughter, now 22, was finally able move past her insecurities and find true love.

“She asked me why she had to have Down’s syndrome and told me she was ugly,” Bekki revealed.

“I never wanted her to feel different and I wished there was something I could do to convince Beth she was the most incredible, beautiful young lady I’d ever met, and that somewhere out there, there was a boy who would agree with me.

"But no teenager wants to hear their mother tell them they’re beautiful. What she needed was to hear it from a boy,” she said.

Feeling frustrated that all of her friends were finding love whilst she remained single, a fact that she blamed on her condition, Maddox decided to apply for the popular series after watching it with her family one evening.

Bekki was in favour of the idea, who completed the application process on behalf of her daughter who was successfully cast in the show after a Skype interview.

However, Maddox’s experience on the show didn’t go quite as she’d hoped.

She went on a date with a man named Bradley, who didn’t contact her afterwards.

Afterwards, the producers set her up on a date with a student from Nottingham called Myles, who also has Down’s syndrome.

However, he was ultimately too young for her and the two had very little in common.

After the show aired in January 2016, Maddox was overwhelmed by messages from people offering their support.

It was a few weeks later that she was set up with a man called Tom, whose support worker had seen her on the show.

The two are now madly in love, The Daily Record reports.

“I used to be so lonely. I was jealous of people who were in love because I wanted to know what love felt like," she explained.

"Now I know – love feels like Champagne. I love everything about Tom. He’s kind, gentle and romantic. He’s so handsome and he’s a great kisser!"
