If you plan on popping to the florist and grabbing a bunch of roses to present to your partner on Valentine’s Day you might want to think again, according to a new poll.

Over half of women are disappointed when their partner gives them flowers on 14 February.

Some 70 per cent of those women said they would rather be given another gift entirely, a survey of 2,000 people by Caption Fragrance Co revealed.

A further 38 per cent regarded fresh flowers as a waste of money, while 70 per cent said they would prefer to be given a gift that lasts forever, the Evening Standard reported.

The findings mirrored those of a Valentine’s Day poll by Durex which showed that 64 per cent of UK adults don’t look forward to the occasion because they think it has become too commercial.

The survey of 2,000 people by Durex found that 40 per cent said Valentine’s Day is too much of a cliché.
