Keen viewers of the latest series of The Apprentice could be forgiven for thinking that Sir Alan Sugar’s fortune is shrinking. The tycoon, who made his pile from Amstrad but is arguably more of a TV celebrity than high-flying businessman today, seems to have traded his £300,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom in for a cheaper model.
His old luxury set of wheels was described by Top Gear magazine as “the best luxury car in the entire world”, but Sir Alan has swapped it for the more modestly-sized Rolls-Royce Ghost. And while the Ghost is by no means a banger, it is a full £100,000 cheaper and is based on a BMW.
The Apprentice star’s spokesman is defensive, telling The Independent: “Don’t read anything into it. Sir Alan loves Rolls-Royces and just wanted to have the latest model. It’s still a Rolls-Royce after all.”
That’s us told then.
