Nissan unveils first images of its Global Compact Car
Monday 05 October 2009
On October 2, Nissan unveiled the first sketches of its Global Compact Car, which the company plans to sell in more than 150 countries.
The car will first be sold in 2010 in Thailand in March, with India soon to follow. The name has not been announced but will be available as a hatchback globally and a sedan and MPV, multipurpose vehicle, in some markets where four-door cars are preferred.
Nissan said the model will qualify as Thailand's first "Eco-car." The auto publication Edmunds Inside Line reported that the car made for the Thai market will yield 47 miles per gallon (20 kilometers per liter) and feature carbon dioxide emissions that are 40 percent lower than the average passenger car. It will be available with gasoline and diesel engines.
The Japanese company Nissan, which partners with French automaker Renault, will produce the small car in five countries, including India, China and Thailand.
