They're unlikely to fit through the mailbox, but Amazon prides itself on selling almost everything, and today the ubiquitous online retailer launched an online store for car wheels.

Amazon says that the new store, available in the US only at , is a "convenient shopping destination for tens of thousands of wheels and related parts and accessories".

The store caters for diverse customers with every vehicle size and shape, stocking brands such as American Racing, Dip, Dale Earnhardt Jr., KMC, Mickey Thompson, Sacchi, Konig and Veloche.

For consumers that aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty, the store could make finding that elusive part a lot easier and cheaper.

A UK report by specialist automotive firm Encircle Marketing found that internet tire retailers came in considerably cheaper than local independents and national firms when compared over a three-month period in 2009.

However, the firm warned that the decision shouldn't always be so clear-cut for consumers, stating that "the level of customer support/care provided at a center is something an online shopper won't always receive when buying from the comfort of their home."
