Revealed: today's best auto safety innovations
Friday 01 October 2010
European car safety testing agency Euro NCAP has named its top ten best safety innovations in a press conference at the Paris Motor Show October 1.
The organization said that its "Euro NCAP Advanced" awards were designed to offer more comprehensive guidance to consumers about the safety of new cars, as well as acting as an incentive to car manufacturers.
In the first ever presentation of the awards, five German automakers were recognized (Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Volkswagen), two French (Peugeot and Citroen), one Swedish (Volvo) and one Japanese (Honda).
Among the winners were blind spot radars from Audi, lane departure warning technology from Opel and Volkswagen, automatic crash assessment and calling systems from BMW, Citroen and Peugeot and collision mitigation systems from Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
The awards were available to any technical system and judging was based on manufacturer's data and analyzed by Euro NCAP's team of experts.
