The cumulative, harmonious result of all the car's revisions is astonishing

The hot new 911 Carrera 4S ticks all the right boxes. Smaller, more powerful and more efficient turbo engine; refreshed styling inside and out; upgraded gearboxes; faster-reacting, more accurate four-wheel drive... it’s simply the most rounded and complete Porsche our testers have driven so far.

At its heart is the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six, bringing an additional 20bhp and 45lb ft of torque yet boosting efficiency to 35.8mpg and 180g/km of CO2 emissions.

Teamed with a choice of manual or PDK dual-clutch auto boxes, both of which move through their seven gears confidently and seamlessly, the torquey motor can propel the Porsche to an optimum of 0-62mph in 3.8sec and 188mph.

The 911 Carrera 4S tooks all the right boxes and looks sleeker than ever

The cumulative, harmonious result of all the revisions is astonishing; whatever the conditions, the AWD 911 is blindingly fast, immensely controlled and – with the aid of PASM active suspension – unfailingly grippy.
