On October 20 Toyota unveiled the first images of its Sai hybrid sedan, just the second hybrid-only model from the auto world's hybrid king.

Toyota has ambitious plans for the car, but it won't unseat their new Auris hybrid in terms of global reach. Toyota announced the Sai will cost about 3.38 million yen (€24,900) when it goes on sale exclusively in Japan in the middle of 2010.

Toyota announced they currently don't have any plans to export the Sai, but their Prius was initially only available in Japan.

The Sai produces an impressive 54 miles per gallon (23 kilometers per liter), which is nearly twice the efficiency of the average petrol car.

More details are expected to be announced October 24, when the car will be formally unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show.
