People on Twitter have revealed the perfect time to play your favourite song so its best bit strikes exactly at midnight.

There are certain essentials for a successful New Year’s Eve celebration – think head-to-toe glitter and plenty of fizz - but arguably the most crucial element is the party playlist.

And, while ‘Auld Lang Syne’ has served us well over the years, if you want to ring in 2018 with something different, Twitter is here to help.

Far from letting their Spotify playlist play in the background, people have carried out precise research on how to time popular songs perfectly so that their most iconic lyric or chorus plays as the clock strikes 12.

Whether you’re partying with friends or having a quiet night in, the suggestions cover pretty much every genre and the tweets end with, 'Start your 2018 off right'"

So, what song will you choose for the final countdown of 2017?

'Wanna start your new year in the most “killer” way possible?' one person wrote.

'Play Mr Brightside on December 31 at 11:56:26pm and the final “bumm bumm buummm” will play right as the clock strikes 12.'

Meanwhile, fans of Taylor Swift are encouraged to play her hit Ready For It at exactly 11:58:50pm so that her iconic 'Are you ready for it?' line plays as the year comes to an end.

Those looking to ring in 2018 with some serious energy should opt for a dose of heavy metal though, with one person writing, 'If you play “Chop Suey” by System of a Down at exactly 11:59:13pm on New Years Eve, the first “wake up” will play at exactly midnight.'
