Why people insist on wearing sunglasses with a hideously coloured tint that makes them look like they suffer liver problems, I don't know. If Frank Butcher in EastEnders had only heeded these few words of good advice, Pat would most probably never have chucked him. But sunglasses are very useful things and you don't need to spend a month's dinner-money for a pair. Make sure, however, that the pair you buy conforms to British Standard (BS) 2724:1987 (the European Standard hasn't been finalised yet, but it will be soon). Otherwise, you could just be buying a pair of dark- coloured glasses that will make your pupils dilate but will not cut out any of the actual light. And your eyes won't be very happy about this, believe me.
