Television: today's pick

Airline (8pm ITV) Another day, another docu-soap. This new one finds a gap in the market somewhere between Airport and Holiday Reps, and follows one summer season in the life of Britannia Airways. Not that Dagmar Charlton's series is unenjoyable - and this first programme is hugely enlivened by the exploits of "Grandad Billy", paterfamilias of a Liverpudlian clan on their way to Ibiza, who drowns his fear of flying in a mixture of whisky and medication. And there's a suspenseful little subplot about a Bradford family who have forgotten some of their passports. The regular most likely to find himself on the cover of the Radio Times is the unflappable chief steward, "BJ", who has a nice line in cabin crew jokes. What, for example, does a pilot use for contraception? Their personality, apparently. Now you know.

The Adam and Joe Show (11.05pm C4) The new series of Father Ted has been put back a week in memory of Dermot Morgan, but those in need of some unrestrained silliness could do worse than the endearingly no-budget sketch show purporting to come from the Brixton bedsit of Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish. The highlight of tonight's opener is This Life as re-enacted by cuddly toys and, well, an egg.
