US weather latest: Hell freezes over in Michigan

It looks like Hell has officially frozen over - at least in America.

As the nation struggles through an intense cold snap, with temperatures continuing to plunge, one tiny town in Michigan has fulfilled its prophecy.

Quaintly named “Hell,” the small Michigan town has frozen as a result of temperatures reaching lows of -21C (-6F).

Images of the town, whose motto is “Go to Hell,” show the town covered in ice and snow - and we hope this isn’t an omen of the year to come.

One picture, featuring a sign announcing the name of the town dripping with icicles is particularly ominous.

As temperatures nationwide reach record-breaking lows, Hell freezing over is just the latest in a series of unnatural occurrences around the country.

In Florida, iguanas are falling from their tree perches after freezing solid from the cold, with the state seeing its first snowfall in nearly 30 years.

And in Massachusetts, sharks have washed ashore after freezing from cold shock in the Atlantic Ocean.

But according to the National Weather Service, the end to the cold doesn’t appear to be near.

They have issued a warning of “very cold temperatures and wind chills for much of the eastern third of the country through the weekend.”

Hopefully, Hell - and the rest of the country - warms up soon.
