Today is your last chance to attend the Scottish Balloon Festiva (right). There will be over 30 hot-air balloons, aerobatics, parachute and kite displays, as well as medieval jousting.

Legazapi City, The Philippines, 19-22 October The Ibalong Festival involves revellers dancing and parading in the streets wearing a series of masks depicting the heroes, villains and wild animals portrayed in the Ibalong epic.

Until 26 October. Asia's last European colony hosts the XI International Music Festival. The programme includes Bizet's Carmen and the production of a canvas by Gerard Economos to the accompaniment of Beethoven's Symphony No3.

The water buffalo drops its plough and enters light-hearted races against fellow beasts ridden by local farmers. Beauty contests, dancing, drinking and impromptu singing.

Key West, Florida,

17-26 October

America celebrates its love affair with television at the Fantasy Fest. More than 60,000 revellers are expected to take part in a spirited array of costume competitions, parties, masked balls and street fairs, all based upon a TV theme.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

15 October marks the official opening of the Ajax Museum, presenting a literal enactment of the famous football club's rise to glory from its very humble origins. Highlights include a 3D display and a film show of hard won victories.
