Star Wars shares video to mark two years since Carrie Fisher's death

Carrie Fisher fans are calling for President Donald Trump’s Hollywood Walk Of Fame star to be replaced with one in honour of the Star Wars actor.

Fisher passed away at the age of 60 on 27 December 2016, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

On Wednesday, Fisher’s former Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill renewed a campaign to get the renowned feminist her own star on Hollywood Boulevard.

The 67-year-old actor tweeted an old article about a proposal to remove Trump’s star with the caption: “Good riddance! (and I know just who should replace him....) #AStarForCarrie."

Last July, the West Hollywood City Council voted to unanimously approve a proposal calling for President Trump’s star to be removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has refused to take action.

“We don’t remove stars,” Ana Martinez, a spokeswoman for the chamber, explained to the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.

“The stars are part of the history of the Walk of Fame.”

In response to Hamill’s tweeted, several of Fisher's supporters have taken to the social media platform using the hashtag #AStarForCarrie petitioning for her recognition in the form of the famous plaque.

One fan tweeted: “Carrie is the only person I can think of that would absolutely make that space her own.

“I think she would have loved to replace that fools star with her own and she would have laughed doing it.”

Another commented in response to Hamill: “ABSOLUTELY @HamillHimself Remove and replace! (from the Walk, and from the White House)[sic]”

“#AStarForCarrie is the least we can do,” wrote another.

“I really hope it happens, and yes Carrie completely deserves a star!” added another user.

Despite the call to action, Martinez said that consideration for Fischer’s star will have to wait.

“We would love for Carrie Fisher to have a star, but the application has to be submitted on the fifth anniversary of her death,” she told the publication.

Martinez continued, explaining that Fisher’s next-of-kin would need to agree to a star being placed in her honour and pay $50,000 (£39,000) to make and install it.

Announcing the star’s death in 2016, a statement from family spokesman Simon Halls read: “It is with a very deep sadness that [her daughter] Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8.55 this morning.

“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

The day after her death, Fisher’s mother, the actor Debbie Reynolds, passed away at the age of 84. Reynolds was a leading lady in Hollywood musicals and comedies in the 1950s and 1960s, starring in Singin' in the Rain.
