Young girl books holiday to Disneyland with father’s credit card while he sleeps
'She's said sorry and promised 10p to help pay it back'
A nine-year-old girl booked a two-day-long trip to Paris for her family of five using her father’s credit card while her parents were asleep.
Ian Wilson, from Immingham, Lincolnshire, was shocked to discover that his daughter Susan had spent £1,000 on the trip, which included tickets for the Disneyland Express train and a VIP trip up the Eiffel Tower.
Susan went into the living room one night while her family slept and booked the trip after correctly guessing the passcode on her father’s phone.
"I don't think Susan really realised the enormity of what she had done," Wilson told The Sun.
"She's said sorry and promised 10p to help pay it back," he added.
The savvy child, who usually holidays with the family in Skegness, spent £391.84 on the Disneyland Express train, £400 on flights and hotel accommodation and an additional £214.08 on the Eiffel Tower trip.
However, Susan was mindful of her spending to an extent, booking flights for her family using budget airline Bravofly.
It wasn’t until a few days later until Wilson checked his bank statement that he’d noticed £1,005.92 had been taken from his account by PayPal.
The 53-year-old welding inspector immediately got in touch with PayPal, who initially did not classify the incident as fraud and refused to refund Wilson and his family for any of the money spent by Susan.
However, they have since had a change of heart and have refunded the money as a “goodwill gesture,” The Sun reports.
“Young people are very savvy and it’s important that we keep our devices and accounts safe,” said a spokesperson for PayPal.
