A PRIVATE medical health plan to serve the bottom end of the market is being launched by the medical insurer PPP, the Private Patients Plan.

Costing about pounds 1 a day for a young family with two children, the PPP ValuePlan will cover private medical hospital bills on the condition that NHS services are not available to the patient within six weeks of diagnosis by a specialist.

The plan gives cover of pounds 10,000 a year for each person enrolled and excludes the country's most expensive hospitals.
