No defence to licence withdrawal

CLUB RIVIERA, the controversial timeshare company based in Manchester, is not defending the action brought by the Office of Fair Trading to revoke its consumer credit licence.

On 26 June the Director-General of Fair Trading issued notices to the Club Riviera group of companies that he was minded to revoke their consumer credit licences.

Simon Clarke, sales and marketing director of Club Riviera, said this week: 'We are not defending it. We have not offered finance to our clients for over a year, so revoking the consumer credit licence makes no difference to us whatsoever.'

Mr Clarke added that it was 'business as usual' and that the companies would continue to sell timeshare.
