Virgin Media reckons families could save up to £300 a year by signing up for its "quad-play" bundles.

The entertainment giant's new deals, which were launched this week, combine broadband, TV, mobile and landline packages.

They're only being offered to existing Virgin Media customers at the moment, but will be available to all from the end of May.

The deals? They come with preposterous names, but don't let that put you off as they could still represent good value.

The Big Bang bundle includes 100mb broadband together with TiVo and a home-phone talk plan for £30 a month.

The Big Kahuna bundle is £45 a month for 152mb broadband, TiVo, and a landline.

For an extra fiver a month, you can get a mobile Sim with 250mb of data, unlimited texts and minutes. Phone handsets are not included in the deal.

There's also a £16 a month line rental to bear in mind, bringing the total cost of the bundles to £51 and £66 respectively.

However, Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at uSwitch, advised: "Before you opt for a bundle deal it's important you make sure it's right for your usage. While the cost of the package is obviously key, it's not the only consideration. Review your current usage by checking your recent bills, paying close attention to your monthly usage of minutes and texts, and your broadband download limit, and make sure the bundle you choose reflects this."
