The deal

Co-operative Insurance has cut the cost of its pet cover by 25 per cent.

Good points

The firm is offering a quarter off the cost of cover for pet dogs and cats as long as you buy the insurance online before the end of October this year.

Bad points

Co-op is not the cheapest pet insurer, so you'll need to compare prices with rival deals to see if the 25 per cent discount makes the offer attractive.

Do you really need pet insurance? Anyone who's been asked for £1,000 or more to pay for necessary treatment for their cherished pet would probably say it's worthwhile. But if you don't need to claim it could seem like an expensive waste of money. You could instead self-insure by putting cash in an account to cover future vet costs.
