The deal
Marks & Spencer, in partnership with HSBC, will launch its first current account in October.
Good points
It will offer a range of extras that will be particularly attractive to M&S shoppers. These include store vouchers, coffee vouchers, travel insurance and a birthday gift.
Bad points
It will cost £240 a year.
Conclusion
There are loads of so-called packaged accounts which offer extras for a large fee. M&S's offering looks a little different but it is clearly going to be more attractive to shoppers of the store than those who shop elsewhere. There are plenty of free bank accounts which you could use instead, and spend the £240 fee at a location of your choice, rather than just M&S.
