The Bargain Hunter: Book early to save on Easter train tickets
Planning an Easter break in the UK? If you're travelling by train, you should book now to save a bundle, according to thetrainline.com. The website claims its customers saved £3m by booking Easter travel in February last year rather than simply buying tickets on the day of travel. Advance-price ticket deals on offer last week at the site included London to Edinburgh at £32.50 instead of £152 and Northampton to Liverpool at £13 instead of £44.
Cut-price Alexon coats on offer
Before then we're still expecting some rotten weather so it's good to report that there's a range of Alexon coats on offer at up to 70 per cent off at House of Fraser stores and online at www.houseoffraser.co.uk. The red coat pictured, for instance, is down from £200 to just £60. Other coats have been reduced from £235 to £70 and from £180 to £54.
Cruise away for a Valentine's special
Planning a getaway for Valentine's Day? How about a cruise to Amsterdam? DFDS Seaways has cut 25 per cent off the rate for a Valentine's special, two-night mini cruise on its Newcastle–Amsterdam route. The deal – at www.dfds.co.uk/offers – reduces the price to £99 per person. The firm says its Dover–Dunkirk or Dover-Calais ferries, which can get you to just an hour from romantic Ghent in Belgium for from just £19 each way for a car and passengers.
Website compares car rental deals
A new website offers commission-free comparisons on car and van-rental deals. The site – at www.hirecomparison.com – appears to make money by charging hire firms for their listings, while most comparison sites take commission when you click-buy through them. The different approach means smaller firms get equal billing, and it doesn't just feature the car-hire giants, the site says.
