Aid worker's wife `sorry' for attacker

The wife of a Christian aid worker beaten to death in Hungary spoke last night of her sorrow for the man who attacked her and killed her husband.

Jo Pollard, 55, still cut and bruised, flew in from Hungary to Leeds- Bradford airport with her family. She said: "I feel very sorry for the boys who did this. They face a long sentence. I was asked by their advocates to speak up for them but there was nothing I could say.

The trial is in November and I don't know if I will go back. I will certainly go back to Hungary one day to carry on our work."

Mrs Pollard suffered a broken jaw and nose and severe chest injuries during the attack.

The couple from Baildon, West Yorkshire, were attacked last Tuesday by three men with iron bars who stole money and belongings.
