A GOAL from Andy Linighan in the final seconds of extra time won the FA Cup for Arsenal at Wembley last night, as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1. With the prospect of penalties looming, the central defender came up for a corner and headed the ball past Chris Woods in the Wednesday goal.

Ian Wright had put Arsenal ahead after 34 minutes of a bruising first half in which Wednesday's Mark Bright was booked. Chris Waddle equalised in the 63rd minute, his drive cannoning into the net off the Arsenal right-back Lee Dixon. It was the fourth time this season that Wednesday fans had gathered at Wembley. The kick-off was delayed by half an hour because of accidents on the M1, which blocked the southbound carriageway for several hours.
