Continuing in the same vein as their blockbusting Time Crisis series, Konami's brand new shoot-'em-up focuses on a battle between the Japanese Mafia and the law. The game is a classic first-person shooter, in which you must blow all criminal threats to pieces. While the game is unusually slow for this genre, its use of motion-sensor hardware gives it an innovative edge.

V-Rally was a revolution when first launched, humbling a well-established genre with its stylish looks and immaculate physics. Now, in its third incarnation, the game is fast becoming an institution with its tweaked graphics, honed physics and even more challenging gameplay. While it may still have its work cut out to pip Colin McRae's Rally to the post, this is definitely a front-runner.

Having already charmed Xbox and PS2 owners with its unusual snowboarding action, SSX Tricky lands on Nintendo's Gamecube. As before, the game offers both trick- and speed-contests across various modes for one or two players. Although not as polished in terms of graphics or controls as the PS2 version, the game is still one of the best extreme sports titles on the market.
