Dave Lewis will present his first set of annual results as the boss of Tesco this week and the City is expecting more of the same: cleaning up past mistakes while setting out a plan for the future.

Bruno Monteyne, former Tesco executive turned Bernstein’s retail analyst, believes the supermarket could announce writedowns of up to £2bn in its full-year results on Wednesday, and expects full steam ahead on property sell-offs. Mr Monteyne believes Mr Lewis will also emphasis plans to win back customers through top customer service and healthy eating drives.

The equipment hire specialist HSS has finals today, while Roman Abramovich’s steel business Evraz has a production report.

Tomorrow sees first-quarter results from the microchip maker Arm Holdings and Polyus Gold International. Sky has its third-quarter results, with Jefferies predicting that the broadcaster will report a 4.9 per cent rise in revenues to £8.9bn. But the broker reckons greater focus will be given to Sky’s future strategy in light of increased competition from BT.

Associated British Foods and Utilitywise have half-year results tomorrow, while Dragon Oil, Informa and Patra Diamonds have updates. Pets at Home has a trading statement.

Fenner and Punch Taverns have half-year results on Wednesday, while Croda, Elementis and Travis Perkins have management updates.

Ladbrokes has a trading update, with Numis predicting flat profits due to the impact of machine games duty, point of consumption tax and the loss of revenue from “grey markets”. William Hill’s trading statement a day later is expected to reflect similar headaches, while neither have been helped by recent football results and the Cheltenham Festival.

The Bank of England is forecast to yet again hold interest rates at record lows.

Cobham, Computacenter, Taylor Wimpey and WPP have updates on Thursday, while Meggitt has a trading update. Anglo American has a production report and Acacia Mining has first-quarter results.

The week ends with first-quarter results from AstraZeneca on Friday and management updates from Pearson, Phoenix Group, Reckitt Benckiser and Spectris.
