THE HANG Seng closed down 52 points at 13,420 after a choppy session in which technology stocks were in demand but blue chips were generally ignored.

Analysts said they would like to see the market break free from its recent trading band. "Either up or down we need some movement," said Stanley Ng of Mansion House Securities.

Hutchison Whampoa ended 0.33 per cent down at HK$75 despite news it was expanding its US presence.
