STOCKS ROSE as investors hunted for stocks likely to gain from the agreement by China to open up its markets in the hope of being allowed to join the World Trade Organisation. The Hang Seng index ended up 127.24 points or 0.87 per cent at 14,689.46, building on Monday's rise to a two- year high.

One of the main beneficiaries was Hutchison Whampoa, which along with Cheung Kong, accounted for more than 10 per cent of share trade volumes.
