STOCKS DROPPED 1.87 per cent as investors skimmed off profits after the market's recent hefty gains, brokers said.
The Hang Seng Index lost 168.82 points to finish at 8,840.01 after a bumpy ride which saw the index hover between 8,807.16 and 9,068.69. The index had risen 19 per cent in five trading days.
Ricky Tam, senior research analyst at Delta Asia Securities, said some investors may have tried to push the market up to unload their holdings at higher levels, causing the volatility.
