HONG KONG stocks jumped to their highest level since May as fund managers returned to the market in force.

The Hang Seng gained 223.48 points, or 2.25 per cent, to close at 10,154.94.

Brokers said investors were rebuilding their investments in Hong Kong and South-east Asia.

A Reuters poll of 49 fund managers showed Western investors were increasing their exposure to the region, encouraged by falling interest rates and a weaker US dollar.
