INDONESIAN SHARES slumped 3.2 per cent on mounting worries over student protests, the falling rupiah and the situation in East Timor. The composite index closed down 17.28 points at 528.17 points.

"Investors were panicky and sold off stocks across the board on mounting worries about possible riots in central Jakarta," one dealer said.

Analysts said the index would find it hard to rebound due to ongoing tension in East Timor and the Bank Bali scandal.
