THE FTSE 100 retreated for the second day running yesterday as a weak Wall Street and plunging bond markets combined to depress sentiment. The blue-chip index fell 40.1 to 6,557.3 and has lost nearly 1 per cent since hitting an all-time high on Tuesday. Turnover was a hefty pounds 1.4bn, boosted by a large volume in the newcomer Telecom Eireann. Traders said a negative start in the Dow and a sharp fall in European bond markets triggered a wave of profit-taking.
