THE MARKET fell for the fifth consecutive session as hawkish comments by the US Fed chairman Alan Greenspan undermined sentiment. The FTSE 100 closed 32 points lower at 6297.8 - its lowest level since June - while the FTSE 250 shed 11.7 to 6021.8 and the Small Cap closed 4.8 down at 2730.6. The indexes were hit by worries over increases in US interest rates after Mr Greenspan told the US congress that inflation had to be kept in check.
