THE DOW rose for the fifth time in six days, led by AlliedSignal on optimism that the company's purchase of Honeywell will help it trim costs. Computer stocks also gained.
The Dow ended up 109.54 points at 10,909.38. In six days the index has regained 442 of the 640 points it lost in the two weeks to 27 May. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 45.80 points, 1.9 per cent, to 2,524.14. The S&P 500 advanced 6.77 points, 0.5 per cent, to 1,334.52.
