THE DOW JONES Industrial Average advanced 95.62, or 0.9

per cent, to 11,066.42, its first close above 11,000 since 13 May and its fifth gain in succession. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index and Nasdaq Composite Index set records for a second day, with the S&P 500 rising 8.07, or 0.6 per cent, to 1380.78, and the Nasdaq adding 20.09, or 0.8 per cent, to 2706.21. The stocks, led by semiconductor and drug shares, rose for a fourth day on fresh signs of the economy growing; manufacturing reached its highest level since July 1997.
