US STOCKS rose as unexpectedly good earnings news pulled investors' attention away from the US-led attack on Iraq and impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton.
Financial and computer-related shares led the gains after Chase Manhattan Corp gave an optimistic profit outlook and Adobe Systems Inc said earnings beat estimates. The Dow Jones rose 85.22, or 1 per cent, to 8,875.82. The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed 18.02 to 1179.96.
