BRITISH AEROSPACE'S Defence Systems unit has been selected by the Ministry of Defence as the preferred bidder for the first phase of a pounds 90m programme to develop an innovative Formation Battle Management System (FBMS) for the British Army.

FBMS will be acquired over the next decade, BAe said, adding that the technical discussions and contract negotiations for the pounds 4.5m, one-year feasibility and architecture design work involved were taking place.

BAe said that it has partnership agreements for the programme with EDS and Logica.
