BP provides for US environment

BP's third-quarter results next week will include an exceptional charge of $385m (pounds 244m) in respect of the sale of its refining and marketing interest in the north-eastern US to the Tosco Corporation. Half of the total is to provide for potential environmental liabilities. BP expects proceeds of $235m for the assets and crude inventories.
