DAIMLER-BENZ aims to launch an electric car in North America by 2003.

Michael Basserman, US head of Daimler subsidiary Mercedes-Benz, said the company will 'definitely' have an electric car on the market by then.

So far, no manufacturer has been prepared to commit itself to a timetable for an electric car, which is widely viewed as the next breakthrough in motor transport.
