The trading giant Mitsui yesterday launched a service enabling Japanese customers to buy upmarket British products at British prices via the Internet. This will enable Japanese to satisfy their passion for European products without having to pay the exorbitant prices charged by specialist shops in Japan. The first products on the Mythical International Shopping Arcade include wine from Corney & Barrow and books from the wholesaler Bertram Books.

Meanwhile in Europe Philips announced plans to launch an Internet browser for ordinary television sets in an attempt to win public support for its Compact Disc Interactive (CD-i) players. The Dutch electronics giant said that it will introduce a modem packaged with CD-i software, which will enable users of CD-i players to connect to the Internet without needing a PC.
