n The Royal Bank of Scotland has a range of guaranteed income accounts, paying up to 5.5 per cent gross interest. The one-year account pays 5 per cent gross on pounds 2,500 upwards, and if you can leave the money untouched for three years the rate is stepped, rising to 6.5 per cent. If you choose an account with a term longer than one year, you can close it after a year but will have to pay at least 30 days' interest. For details, 0800 121 121.
n For the start of the new football season, Leeds & Holbeck building society has boosted rates on its Leeds United Privilege Savings Account. The real lure for Leeds fans is a free stadium tour and two free match tickets. Savers also get discounts in the club store. For details call 0113 225 7777.
n The Portman BS is still offering its "no strings" mortgage, which has no penalties for early repayment and a refund of the valuation fee.
