CBI chief to issue union warning

THE CBI president, Sir Clive Thompson (pictured), who once referred to trade unionists as "pests", will tonight warn that the current buzzword of "partnership" could be a smokescreen for a damaging build-up of union power. Speaking at the annual dinner of the South East CBI, Sir Clive, who is also chief executive of Rentokil Initial, will also cast doubt on the legitimacy of European-level meetings between organisations representing unions and employers. "The fact is that unions are now the exception, not the norm," Sir Clive will say.
