Figures subdue US fears
Lower energy and food costs kept prices charged at the factory gate flat last month in America, after a shock rise in April. The news partially relieved fears that inflation could be on the increase even though economic growth in the US is slowing. Excluding food and energy, ''core'' producer output prices climbed 0.3 per cent, the same as the previous month.
